You can find your LinkedIn URL on desktop by clicking “Me” and “View Profile”. It appears on the right under “Public profile & URL” and starts with www.linkedin.com/in/. In the app, tap your profile photo twice, then “More” and “Contact info”. You can choose the final part of the address yourself and change it up to five times within six months.

**Last updated: October 14, 2026.** All steps and rules come from LinkedIn Help as of October 2026 (checked on October 3, 2026). LinkedIn changes its interface regularly, so a menu item may have a slightly different name for you.

## What is a LinkedIn URL?

Your LinkedIn URL is the address of your public profile. Anyone who clicks it goes straight to your profile without having to find you through search first. LinkedIn calls it your “public profile URL”.

Every profile has two addresses. LinkedIn assigns the **assigned URL** when you create your account. According to LinkedIn, it only changes if you update your name. You choose the **custom URL** yourself, for example linkedin.com/in/anna-schmidt instead of a string of names and numbers. Share the custom version: it is easier to remember and looks cleaner in print.

Two details from LinkedIn Help: For members in certain countries, the address starts with a two-letter country code, such as ca.linkedin.com for a profile set to Canada. If you change the country on your profile, this address changes automatically. According to LinkedIn, the old URLs still work. Profiles in additional languages use the same URL; LinkedIn only adds a language indicator.

## Find your LinkedIn URL: desktop, app and mobile browser

On desktop, follow these steps:

1. At the top of the LinkedIn homepage, click the “Me” icon.
2. Click “Profil anzeigen”.
3. On the right side of your profile page, you’ll find your address under “Public profile & URL”. It starts with www.linkedin.com/in/.
4. Copy the link and paste it wherever you need it.

You can also find the address in your browser’s address bar when your profile is open. For your CV and email signature, use the version under “Public profile & URL”: that is the address LinkedIn identifies as your public profile URL.

![LinkedIn URL finden am Desktop und in der App: Profil-Link kopieren](https://media.compleadly.de/media/3c7d070186e822cf0f3c54beaa55a2a98f443d61787c283ba459c4a477964f42.jpg)

Find your LinkedIn URL on desktop and in the app: copy your profile link

### In the LinkedIn app

1. Tap your profile photo.
2. Tap your profile photo again to open your profile.
3. Next to “Add profile section”, tap the “More” icon.
4. Tap “Contact info”.
5. Your public profile URL appears under “Your profile”.

According to LinkedIn, you can also select “Send profile in a message” from the same “More” menu. This sends your profile link directly in a LinkedIn message without copying it. On desktop, the same option is under “Resources”.

### In a browser on your phone

If you open LinkedIn in a mobile browser instead of the app, tap your profile photo, scroll to “Contact” and find the URL under “LinkedIn”. Source for all three methods: [LinkedIn Help: “Find your public profile URL”](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a522735?lang=de).

### Find someone else’s profile URL

If you need a colleague’s or candidate’s link, open their profile and copy the address from your browser’s address bar. You can also use a search engine: enter their name followed by “LinkedIn”. This only works if they have made their public profile visible to search engines.

## Can’t see a URL? Check your public profile

According to LinkedIn, your URL will not appear if you do not have a public profile. You can control whether your profile is public in the same place: click “Me”, then “View Profile”, then “Edit” next to “Public profile & URL”. There you’ll find the “Your profile’s public visibility” switch. In the app, go to “Settings”, “Visibility” and “Edit your public profile” ([LinkedIn Help on public profiles](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a528138?lang=de)).

Good to know: According to LinkedIn, it can take several weeks or months for Google or Bing to reflect changes to your public profile. LinkedIn has no control over this.

## Change your LinkedIn URL: step by step

To set a custom URL on desktop:

1. At the top of the homepage, click “Me”, then “View Profile”.
2. Click the “Edit” icon next to “Public profile & URL” on the right.
3. On the right, under “Edit your custom URL”, click “Edit” next to your URL.
4. Enter the final part of your new URL.
5. Click “Speichern”.

In the app, tap your profile photo twice, then tap “More” next to “Add profile section” and select “Contact info”. Tap “Edit” in the top right, then tap your profile URL. LinkedIn will take you to your public profile settings. Under “Edit your custom URL”, tap “Edit”, enter the new address and save it. Change your LinkedIn URL: turn a long profile link into a short custom URL

### Rules for custom URLs

| Rule | What LinkedIn says |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Length | 3 to 100 characters |
| Characters | no spaces, symbols, special characters or the word “LinkedIn” |
| Capitalisation | does not matter: AnnaSchmidt and annaschmidt lead to the same profile |
| Availability | first come, first served; LinkedIn does not release taken URLs on request |
| Changes | up to five times within six months, then no changes for six months |
| Old URL | remains linked to you for six months unless you remove the link |
| Removed link | unavailable to others for seven days; after that, someone else can use it |

As of October 2026; source as above. Since special characters are not allowed, the safest approach is to spell out German umlauts: use “ue” instead of “ü”.

### What makes a good URL?

LinkedIn recommends a variation of your name or professional brand. That gives you a simple order to follow:

- First and last name, for example anna-schmidt.
- If that is taken, add a middle name or initial, such as anna-m-schmidt.
- Only then add something related to your profession, such as anna-schmidt-recruiting.
- No years, no employers: both can become outdated faster than your name.

Once you’ve changed the URL, try not to change it again. The old address remains linked to you for only six months. After that, a link in an old application, on a business card or in a signature may lead to “Profile not found,” according to LinkedIn. LinkedIn also says that frequent changes make you harder to find.

You don’t need a subscription for a custom URL. LinkedIn’s help documentation explains how all members can customise it and does not list Premium as a requirement. What Premium offers and what the plans currently cost is covered in our overview of [LinkedIn Premium costs](https://compleadly.com/blog/how-much-does-linkedin-premium-cost-in-2026-all-prices-plans-and-tips-at-a-glance).

## Change your LinkedIn company page URL

A company page has its own address too. Only a page Super Admin can change it:

1. Open the Super Admin view of your company page.
2. Click “Edit page” in the left-hand menu.
3. Click the “Page info” tab.
4. Click the “Public LinkedIn URL” field and enter the new name.
5. Click “Save” in the top right.

Source: [LinkedIn Help: “Edit your company page URL”](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a570177?lang=de). Pages follow different rules from profiles ([LinkedIn Help: “Public URL of a company page”](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a564298?lang=de), as of October 2026):

- You can change the primary URL at any time, but no more than once within 30 days.
- There is also a secondary URL with an identification number that only admins can see. It cannot be changed.
- Changing the page name does not change its URL. These are separate steps.
- After a change, both the old and new URLs lead to the page. If another admin claims the old address, LinkedIn may reassign it, ending the redirect.
- According to LinkedIn, it can take a few weeks for search engines to pick up the new address.

LinkedIn company page URL: company and page linked through the public URL

LinkedIn advises against abbreviations that could match another company. For example, use /the-dream-company rather than /tdc. Our guide shows you how to create a page in the first place: [Create a LinkedIn Company Page](https://compleadly.com/blog/how-to-create-a-linkedin-company-page-step-by-step).

## LinkedIn URL in your CV, email signature and job applications

According to LinkedIn, some application forms explicitly ask for your public profile URL. In your CV, put it in the contact section, next to your email address and phone number. Three rules to make sure the link works:

- Use the short form without https:// or www., such as linkedin.com/in/anna-schmidt. In a PDF, make it clickable too.
- Use the custom URL from “Public profile and URL,” not the one assigned to you.
- Test the link in a private browser window. This shows you your profile as others see it.

Our guide explains how to upload your CV to LinkedIn and export your profile as a PDF: [guide to LinkedIn CVs](https://compleadly.com/blog/how-to-add-resume-to-linkedin).

![LinkedIn-URL in Lebenslauf und E-Mail-Signatur einfügen](https://media.compleadly.de/media/7057cd34df9221fdcb0d2f2d55bdf5d85458f24d2f42a30438f74bb4b410f71b.jpg)

Add your LinkedIn URL to your CV and email signature

In your email signature, a short “LinkedIn” text link to your profile URL is enough. Our free signature generator creates a signature with your profile link and, if you want, a QR code linking to your profile, ready to paste into your email program. [Open tool](https://compleadly.com/free-tools/email-signature-generator).

For trade fairs and presentations, you can use the QR code LinkedIn generates in its app. Our article shows you where to find the [LinkedIn QR code](https://compleadly.com/blog/linkedin-qr-code).

## Profile links in outreach: sales, recruiting and job searches

On LinkedIn, links are also a tool for outreach. Paste the URL of a LinkedIn or Sales Navigator search into CompLeadly, and it becomes a target audience that the desktop app works through on your own computer: visit profiles, send connection requests, send an initial message after acceptance and follow up if there’s no reply.

- **Sales:** A Sales Navigator search by industry, role and region becomes a list of decision-makers you can contact.
- **Recruiting:** Alongside people searches and Sales Navigator, you can use Recruiter Lite searches, pipelines and saved searches as sources. This gives you a separate candidate list for each role. Read more under [Candidate lists with CompLeadly](https://compleadly.com/use-cases/recruiters).
- **Job search:** Job seekers create a list of hiring managers and recruiters at the companies they want to work for, then reach out to them directly. Find out which mistakes to avoid in the [most common mistakes when looking for a job on LinkedIn](https://compleadly.com/blog/10-common-linkedin-mistakes-when-job-hunting-and-how-to-avoid-them).

In the free version, connection requests and initial messages are core features with daily limits, such as 2 connection requests and 1 initial message per day. Separately, you can try all features for the first 10 days after registration. Your own custom URL then belongs in every message where you refer someone to your profile.
