Adding a LinkedIn certificate takes less than two minutes: You open your profile and click in the introduction section on**Add profile section**, select under**Recommended**the point**Certificates and certifications**, fill out the pop-up, and click on**Save**. In the app, the same button is called**Add section**You can even add certificates from LinkedIn Learning directly from your learning history to your profile.

This guide shows you both click paths for removing entries, explains how they differ from skills, courses and education, and which certifications belong on your profile.**Last updated: 19 September 2026**, the click paths are from the German version[LinkedIn Help Centre](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a546834?lang=de) field.

## Adding a LinkedIn certificate: Steps on desktop

The section for certificates is called in German**Certificates and certifications**. It is not in the basic details, but in the group**Recommended**– along with “Featured”, “Projects”, “Courses” and “Recommendations”.

1. Click the icon at the top of the LinkedIn homepage**You** field.
2. Click on**View profile** field.
3. Click in the introduction section on**Add profile section** field.
4. Open the group**Recommended**and select**Certificates and certifications** field.
5. Enter the required information in the pop-up window.
6. Click on**Save** field.

Source: [linkedin.com/help – Add sections to your profile](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a546834?lang=de)The symbol is called “Sie” in the German version, not “Ich” – so don’t be surprised if English instructions refer to “Me”.

## Add LinkedIn certificates in the app

If you want to add multiple LinkedIn certificates, you can do so on mobile too—just with different labels:

1. Tap your**Profile picture** field.
2. Tap your profile picture again to open your profile.
3. Tap the introduction section and select**Add section** field.
4. Tap on**Certificates and certifications**in the group**Recommended** field.
5. Enter the required information.
6. Tap on**Save** field.

Repeat the process for each additional certificate. The German help page does not specify an upper limit on the number of entries.

## What information the form asks for

The German help article only says this about the pop-up: “Enter the required information in the displayed pop-up window.” There is currently no German help article listing the individual field names in the certificate form—earlier articles on this are no longer available. We therefore will not include a list of fields here that we cannot verify.

In practice, this means: Before you click, have the details from your certificate ready – title, issuing organisation, date and, if available, verification number and verification link. Then fill in what the form asks for directly from the document instead of relying on memory.

## Add certificates from LinkedIn Learning to your profile

If you have completed a course on LinkedIn Learning, you do not need to enter it manually. LinkedIn provides a separate way to add it:

1. Sign up for LinkedIn Learning.
2. Click your profile picture in the top right and select**My Library** field.
3. Click on**Learning progress** field.
4. Click next to the course on**More**and select**Add to profile** field.
5. Choose in the pop-up whether you want to**Share with your network**activate it – you can also limit visibility to contacts or individual people.
6. Confirm with**Add to profile** field.

In the Learning app, tap the bottom left.**My courses**, scroll down to the**Learning progress**, tap on**Show all**, select the course and tap**Add to profile**. The button then changes to**In your profile**. With the completion certificate, you can also optionally add the course skills—up to 100 skills are allowed per profile. Important for setting expectations: LinkedIn itself states that Learning completion certificates_no longer_are comparable to a vocational qualification or a software certification programme. They are generated automatically once you have completed all videos in a course or learning path; there is no exam. Source:[linkedin.com/help – Frequently asked questions about completion certificates in Learning](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a598944/lernen-sie-die-zertifikate-ihrer-zertifikate-haufig-gestellte-fragen?lang=de-DE) field.

## Edit, delete or reorder certificate

To edit an entry, scroll to the section in the profile**Certificates and certifications**and use the edit icon — LinkedIn describes the same process for other profile sections. We were unable to access a current German help article specifically about editing and deleting certificates on 19 September 2026\. So rely on what the interface offers, not on second-hand instructions.

LinkedIn only documents a feature for manual reordering in German for**Education entries**There, the edit window shows a sort icon once you have at least two entries, which you can use to change the order by dragging.[Help articles](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a10536090?lang=de)). There are no corresponding instructions for certificates. So do not expect to be able to choose the order freely.

## Certificates, skills, courses, education – what belongs where

LinkedIn distinguishes between four sections that are often confused. The classification is based on the list of profile sections:

- **Certificates and certifications**(“Recommended” group): completed credentials issued by an organisation – certifications, licences, examination certificates.
- **Courses**(“Recommended” group): courses and seminars attended, even without proof of completion.
- **Skills**(Group “Key information”): individual skills that others can endorse. Maximum of 100, see[Help articles on skills](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a541995?lang=de). We explain how confirmations work in the[Acknowledgement of receipt](https://compleadly.com/knowledge/skill-endorsement-feature-explained) field.
- **Training**(Group “Key information”): School, university, field of study.

Rule of thumb: If there is a document with an issuer and date, it belongs under certifications. If it is simply a skill you have, it belongs under skills.

## Which certifications belong on your profile — and which do not

This section is not an archive. It is an argument. It works when someone can immediately see, at a glance, what you are reliably good at. That is why quality matters more than completeness.

This section should include credentials that support your current role – industry-specific certifications, licences you need for your work, and vendor certifications your customers recognise. Leave out webinar attendance certificates, certificates with no identifiable issuer, and anything older than the technology in question. An entry that no one can place costs you attention you need elsewhere – such as in your [profile headline](https://compleadly.com/blog/linkedin-headline-examples) field.

If you are currently completely revising your profile, it is best to sort your certifications last. You can find the order of the steps in the article [Perfect LinkedIn Profile](https://compleadly.com/blog/perfect-linkedin-profile-career-success-in-6-steps) field.

## Can my network see that I added a certificate?

For Learning certificates, you decide this yourself: the pop-up includes the option **Share with network**, which you can also deselect or limit to connections.

For manually added certificates, the situation is less clear. The **Share profile updates** setting controls notifications about job changes, promotions, education changes and company anniversaries, according to LinkedIn – the article does not mention certificates. You can find the toggle under **Me > Settings & Privacy > Visibility > Visibility of your LinkedIn activity > Share profile updates**. Automatically generated posts remain available for 90 days and are then deleted. Source: [linkedin.com/help – Share profile updates](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a527193?lang=de). If you are planning a larger profile update, turn the toggle off beforehand and turn it back on once you are finished.

## Frequently asked questions about adding certificates

### Where can I find the certificates section on LinkedIn?

It is called **Licences & certifications** and can be found on your profile under **Add profile section** in the **Recommended** group. In the app, the entry point is called **Add section**. Then fill in the pop-up and save it.

### How can I add multiple LinkedIn certificates?

Repeat the same process for each credential; there is no documented upper limit. Skills, on the other hand, are limited to 100 per profile. Focus on relevance rather than quantity – four relevant certificates make a stronger impression than twenty mixed ones.

### Can I automatically add certificates from LinkedIn Learning?

Yes. In your learning history, click **More** next to the course and select **Add to profile**; in the app, tap **Add to profile**. The button will then show **In your profile**. You can also add the course skills at the same time.

### How do I delete a certificate?

Use the edit icon in the **Licences & certifications** section of your profile. We were unable to access a current German help article with the exact steps for deleting one on 19 September 2026, so we will not provide instructions that we cannot verify.

### Are LinkedIn Learning certificates official qualifications?

No. LinkedIn itself makes it clear that Learning completion certificates are not comparable to a professional qualification or a software certification programme. They are generated automatically once you have completed all videos in a course – without an exam.
