Facebook groups can be a source of B2B leads if you use them as a signal, not a contact list. Choose groups where your target audience talks about their work. Read posts and member lists manually, shortlist only people with a clear professional connection, and find them on LinkedIn using their name and company. Then reach out on LinkedIn: send a connection request, follow with an opener once they accept, and send no more than one follow-up. The technical side is the smaller issue. What matters more is that every message has a reason the recipient can immediately recognise.

This guide walks you through the process step by step, without scraping tools. **As of 23 September 2026.**

## Why Facebook groups can be a source of leads

Joining a professional group shows an interest in its topic. Asking a question there often points to a current problem. Both are signals that filtering by industry and job title alone cannot give you:

- **Topic, not title:** In a group about payroll accounting, online shop logistics or practice management, you meet people who work with that exact topic, whatever their job title.
- **Context for your outreach:** You know what the person is talking about. That makes your first message more specific than a generic “I saw your profile.”
- **Limitations:** Many groups are personal rather than professional, many members only read along, and not everyone who asks a question controls a budget. A group gives you a clue, not a qualified lead.

## Choose relevant groups

Three types of groups work for B2B:

- **Industry and professional groups**, for example, groups for tax advisers, trades businesses, online shop operators or HR professionals.
- **Groups for users of software and products**, that your target audience uses in their daily work. This includes groups focused on competitors’ products. Members there have a need you understand. As for tone, remember that you are a guest. Don’t put down the product the group is about, either in posts or in messages. Describe what you offer instead of judging the other product.
- **Regional business groups**, if your offer is regional.

Before you invest time, check each group:

- **Activity:** Have there been posts with genuine questions and answers in recent weeks, or only promotional posts?
- **Group rules:** Many groups prohibit self-promotion or contacting members directly. You can find the rules in the group’s information section. Follow them even if you plan to contact people elsewhere later.
- **Public or private:** According to Facebook Help, anyone on Facebook can see who belongs to a public group. For private groups, only current members can see this. Source: [Facebook Help – Differences between public and private groups](https://de-de.facebook.com/help/220336891328465), accessed on 23 September 2026\. Join a private group only if you intend to contribute, not just to get its member list.
- **Avoid sensitive topics:** If membership alone could reveal someone’s health, religion, political views or trade union membership, the group is not a source of leads. Reaching out based on that context is off-limits.

## Step by step: from group member to LinkedIn contact

### 1\. Join and read along

Join with your real profile and spend a few days reading along. Answer questions where you have relevant expertise. Someone who has already been helpful in the group is more likely to have their LinkedIn connection request accepted later. You will also learn how your target audience talks about its work.

### 2\. Look at the member list and posts

According to Facebook Help, you can find members at the top of the group under **People** (public groups) or **Members** (private groups), possibly only under **More**. Source:[Facebook Help – View the members of a Facebook group](https://de-de.facebook.com/help/727473118066542), accessed on 23 September 2026\. Posts are more useful than the list alone: Who asks questions? Who gives informed answers? Who names their company?

### 3\. Qualify people before writing anything down

Only add people whose activity in the group shows a professional connection to your offer. For example:

- The person names their company or role in a post or their public group profile.
- They describe a problem your offer solves.
- Their company fits your target audience (industry, size, region).

If someone is simply a member and you know nothing about their professional context, leave them out. That saves you work and keeps your list focused. Rule of thumb: 20 people with context are better than 200 names without it.

### 4\. Find the person on LinkedIn

Search LinkedIn by first and last name, then narrow the people search by company. Add a profile only if the name, company and role match. If the name is common or no company is listed, leave the contact out rather than guess. Sending a connection request to the wrong person costs trust and lowers your acceptance rate.

### 5\. Keep a lean list

You only need four details for your outreach: **name, company, LinkedIn profile link and source** (group and date). Private details from the Facebook profile, such as where someone lives, their family or photos, don’t belong there. Record the source because you’ll mention it in your opener.

Do all of this manually. That way, only people with a clear professional connection end up on your list.

## Continue on LinkedIn with CompLeadly

Once you have a list of LinkedIn profile links, CompLeadly can handle your LinkedIn outreach. You still do the Facebook part manually.

- **Import a target audience from Excel:** Use _Import a list of people_ to add profiles from an Excel file to a target audience. Each row needs a LinkedIn or Sales Navigator profile link; everything else is optional. The required columns are listed in [Which fields need to go in the Excel import spreadsheet](https://compleadly.com/knowledge/which-fields-need-to-be-included-in-the-import-excel-table). You can add extra columns during import as custom placeholders for your messages, such as the topic the person posted about in the group.
- **Set up the sequence:** A connection request, an opener after they accept, then a follow-up if the message goes unanswered for the number of days you specify.
- **Maintain a blocklist:** Anyone who is not interested or objects to being contacted goes on your blocklist in CompLeadly. You can add them manually or add multiple profiles via Excel import. CompLeadly’s features will then skip those profiles. The blocklist is available on every plan, including the free version. Don’t confuse it with the “Block profiles on LinkedIn” feature (available from Premium): that blocks people directly on LinkedIn, so neither of you can view the other’s profile. You don’t need that feature for this approach. To find the blocklist, see [Where can I find the blocklist?](https://compleadly.com/knowledge/where-can-i-find-the-blocklist).

The automation runs locally in the desktop app on your computer. After the 10-day trial with all features, you can keep using CompLeadly for free with daily limits on basic features, such as 2 connection requests, 1 opener and 1 follow-up per day. You start each step separately; full workflows and schedules are available from Basic. You can find the current plans under [Pricing](https://compleadly.com/pricing).

## Recruiting and job search: the same approach, a different target audience

The same approach works in two other roles. The practical tips below apply to them too.

- **Recruiting:** Professional groups, such as those for nurses, electricians or developers, show you who is active in a field and answers questions competently. In CompLeadly, you add candidates as a target audience. You can do this via Excel import, a LinkedIn people search, a Sales Navigator search or a Recruiter Lite search or pipeline. The last two require the corresponding LinkedIn licence. You contact candidates with a connection request, an opener and a follow-up. Read more under [CompLeadly for recruiters](https://compleadly.com/use-cases/recruiters).
- **Job search:** In industry and regional groups, you can see who works for your preferred employers or posts jobs there. Find these recruiters and hiring managers on LinkedIn and add them as a target audience. CompLeadly can visit their profiles and follow them before sending a connection request. Then come an opener and no more than one follow-up. In the free version, CompLeadly visits up to 25 profiles per day (a basic feature with a daily limit); following profiles during a visit is available from Basic. To learn how to set up your own profile for this, see [10 common LinkedIn mistakes when job hunting](https://compleadly.com/blog/10-common-linkedin-mistakes-when-job-hunting-and-how-to-avoid-them) it and enter it [Open to Work on LinkedIn](https://compleadly.com/blog/open-to-work-linkedin).

## Outreach templates

Be open about the group being your reason for getting in touch. It’s more honest than making up a reason, and the person immediately knows where you found them. The names in the examples are fictional.

### Connection request

> Hi Jana, we’re both in the “Onlinehändler Logistik” group. Your question about return rates caught my attention because I’m working on a similar topic. I’d be glad to connect with you here.

We discuss whether to include a note at all in [LinkedIn connections: With or without a message](https://compleadly.com/blog/linkedin-connections-with-or-without-a-message-what-works-better).

### Opener after acceptance

> Thanks for connecting, Jana. For context: I came across your profile through the “Onlinehändler Logistik” Facebook group and only noted your name, your company and your LinkedIn profile. I’d be interested to hear how you’re handling returns now. You can find out what I do with your data and what rights you have in my privacy notice: \[Link to your privacy notice\]. If you’d rather not talk, just let me know and I’ll delete your data.

### Follow-up

> Hi Jana, just following up once. I won’t contact you again unless you reply. If returns are on your agenda right now, I’d be happy to send you a brief overview of how other retailers handle them.

What to avoid: making an offer in the first sentence, promising a result you can’t substantiate, or saying things like “I saw that you’re unhappy with Product X.” That feels intrusive, and disparaging a competitor’s product comes across as unprofessional. You’ll find more advice on getting your requests accepted in the [article on LinkedIn connection acceptance rates](https://compleadly.com/blog/increase-your-linkedin-acceptance-rate-by-10-30-straight-away).

## How to reach out appropriately

Three habits determine whether your request is welcome or ignored:

1. **Name the group as your source and link to your privacy notice.** In your opener, say where you know the person from and what you noted down. Your privacy notice explains the rest. The template above shows how to do this in three sentences.
2. **Stick to professional groups and record only what you need.** Name, company, LinkedIn profile link and source are enough. Leave private details from the Facebook profile out.
3. **Not interested? Add them to the blocklist.** If someone declines or doesn’t want to be contacted again, add them to the blocklist in CompLeadly and delete the rest of their data. Delete contacts who don’t respond from your list and target audience after a period you set in advance.

If Facebook groups are not a useful source for your target audience, it is worth looking at other [outreach channels](https://compleadly.com/blog/customer-acquisition-channels-how-to-use-the-best-channels-to-win-new-customers). Why we prefer LinkedIn to cold email for contacts we have researched is explained in [Find email address](https://compleadly.com/blog/email-finder).

## Frequently asked questions about leads from Facebook groups

### Who can see the members of a Facebook group?

According to Facebook’s help centre, anyone on Facebook can see who belongs to a public group. In a private group, only current members can see this.

### How do I find a group member on LinkedIn?

Use LinkedIn’s people search with the person’s first and last name, then narrow the search to the company they mention in the group. Add the profile only if the name, company and role clearly match.

### Should I tell the person where I know them from?

Yes, right in the opener. Name the group and link to your privacy notice. That builds trust and answers their first question before they ask it.

### Can I message group members directly on Facebook Messenger?

Many group rules prohibit this. This guide therefore uses a LinkedIn connection request, which the person can accept or ignore.
