A LinkedIn carousel today is a document post: you upload a PDF, PowerPoint or Word file, and LinkedIn shows its pages as slides people swipe through in the feed. LinkedIn allows files up to 100 MB and 300 pages, one document per post, and sets no official slide dimensions. Below you'll find the format, five steps to post one and six examples by goal. **Last updated: 2 October 2026.**

## What is a LinkedIn carousel?

When people talk about a LinkedIn carousel today, they almost always mean a document post. You design slides, export them as a PDF and attach the file to a post as a document. The feed shows the first page, and readers click or swipe through the rest. One slide, one idea. That is why the format works well for how-tos, checklists and comparisons people want to keep.

A separate image carousel format no longer shows up in LinkedIn's current help center. The help page on photos describes posts with multiple images, and older help pages about carousels can no longer be retrieved. So we won't date its end. To post a carousel on LinkedIn today, you use a document upload or a multi-image post.

What is known about document posts in the feed is covered in our article on the [LinkedIn algorithm in 2026](https://compleadly.com/blog/linkedin-algorithm-2026).

## LinkedIn carousel post format: file types and limits

LinkedIn is specific about documents. Its help center states: “The file size cannot exceed 100MB and 300 pages. The following file types are supported: PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX, and PDF.” A second help page adds a cap of one million words. You can upload a document to a post from your homepage, a Group or a LinkedIn Page.

Three rules to know before you export:

- **One document per post.** “You can only add one document to a post.” The document also needs a title.
- **Once it's live, the file is locked.** LinkedIn says “you can't change or edit the document in the post.” A typo on slide 7 means deleting the post and publishing it again, so read the whole PDF once before you upload.
- **Readers can download it.** Anyone who can see your post can download the document as a PDF. Keep internal numbers, client names and drafts off the slides.

For preparation, LinkedIn recommends converting files to PDF whenever possible, flattening or merging PDFs with multiple layers and fitting all pages to the same page size. Videos and animations inside a document display as static images.

### What size should a LinkedIn carousel be?

LinkedIn gives no pixel dimensions or aspect ratio for documents. What follows is our recommendation from practice, not a LinkedIn requirement: design in a 4:5 portrait format such as 1080 × 1350 pixels, or go square at 1080 × 1080 pixels. Portrait takes up more of a phone screen. It also lines up with what LinkedIn states for photos in multi-image posts, which render at a maximum ratio of 4:5\. The exact size matters less than consistency: every page must be the same size, and LinkedIn says so explicitly.

Keep text readable on a phone without zooming: a headline plus two or three short lines per slide. To match your profile to your slides, see our guide to the [LinkedIn banner size](https://compleadly.com/blog/linkedin-banner-size).

## The alternative: a post with up to 20 images

Instead of a PDF, you can put several images into one post. LinkedIn allows “a maximum of 20 photos in a multi-photo post.” Each photo can be up to 5 MB and must be at least 552 × 276 pixels; LinkedIn recommends a width of 1080 pixels. You can't combine a link and an image in the same post, so it's one or the other.

Which format should you pick? A document post is the right call when the slides have an order and should be read in sequence, as with tutorials and checklists. A multi-image post fits when each image stands on its own, like photos from an event or a set of separate screenshots.

## How to post a carousel on LinkedIn in 5 steps

1. **Write the outline before you design.** Write each slide in plain text: a cover with the payoff, one slide per point, a closing slide with the next action. If you use AI for the draft, check every fact yourself. LinkedIn's own AI-powered writing tool for posts is marked “No longer available” in its help center ([LinkedIn Help: Create posts with our AI-powered writing tool](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1517763), retrieved 2 October 2026). Which tools are worth using for LinkedIn copy is covered in our roundup of [AI tools for LinkedIn](https://compleadly.com/blog/linkedin-ai-tools).
2. **Build the slides in Canva or PowerPoint.** Set the page size once, for example our recommended 4:5 portrait, and keep it identical for every slide. Use large type and keep the headline in the same spot on every slide.
3. **Export as a PDF.** LinkedIn also accepts PPT, PPTX, DOC and DOCX, but recommends PDF. Export without animations and with one page size throughout. Flatten layered PDFs from design tools before you upload. Then check every slide on your phone.
4. **Upload it.** On desktop, click “Start a post,” then “More” and the “Add a document” icon. Click “Choose file,” add a title to your document and click “Done.” In the app, tap “Post,” tap the More icon, then “Document,” pick your file, add a title and tap “Next.” According to LinkedIn, the desktop upload also works from Dropbox or Google Drive.
5. **Write the caption and post.** The text above the document decides whether anyone starts swiping. Say in the first line what the reader will be able to do by the last slide. For bold or italic highlights, use the free [LinkedIn text formatter](https://compleadly.com/free-tools/linkedin-text-formatter). Then click “Post.” After that, the document can't be swapped out.

The steps and labels come from [LinkedIn Help: Upload and share documents on LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a518909) (retrieved 2 October 2026). Labels in your LinkedIn interface may differ slightly.

You can also schedule posts ahead of time, for example with Canva; see our short knowledge article [Schedule posts on LinkedIn](https://compleadly.com/knowledge/schedule-posts-on-linkedin). We have not verified whether a scheduled PDF shows up as a swipeable document post, so check the first scheduled post in your feed.

## LinkedIn carousel examples: 6 outlines by goal

These are outlines to fill with your own material, grouped by what the post should achieve.

### 1\. Checklist: get saved

Goal: readers keep the post and come back to it. Slide 1 names the task (“Before you send X, check these points”), each following slide covers one check with a one-line reason, and the last slide sums up the whole list on a single page. That final slide is the one people screenshot.

### 2\. Step-by-step guide: show expertise

Goal: readers see that you know a process inside out. One step per slide, starting with a verb, plus one common mistake.

### 3\. Before and after: show the effect

Goal: readers understand what a change actually does. Show a weak and an improved version of the same text, slide or offer, each with one sentence on what changed. Use your own work or anonymized patterns, never made-up client results.

### 4\. Myths vs. facts: start a discussion

Goal: comments. Each slide pairs a common industry belief with a sourced counterpoint. The closing slide asks readers which belief they'd add.

### 5\. Role profile: attract candidates

Goal: recruiting. Instead of a wall of text, the carousel walks through the job: the team, a typical week, what the first months look like, the requirements and how the hiring process runs. The last slide says how to get in touch.

### 6\. Job seeker portfolio: be remembered

Goal: landing a job. On a handful of slides, show one project: the starting point, your part, the outcome and what you learned. Keep past employers' confidential data out: every reader can download the PDF.

## How to measure your carousel's reach

A carousel is a post like any other: you see impressions, reactions and comments. What exactly counts as an impression, and how it differs from reach and views, is explained in [What are LinkedIn impressions?](https://compleadly.com/blog/what-are-linkedin-impressions). We don't quote numbers on how the feed weights documents here, because we have no LinkedIn source for them.

So benchmark against yourself: compare a carousel with your recent text and image posts on a similar topic and log impressions, reactions and comments for each. For sales and recruiting, add a fourth column: what happened next? New connection requests, messages and profile visits from your target audience are why you post. Two relevant conversations beat a pile of likes from the wrong industry.

## Carousels for sales, recruiting and job seekers

**Sales.** A carousel about a customer problem speaks to the people who have it, and anyone who reacts or comments is a warm contact. CompLeadly turns these people into a target audience (export post interactions, Premium and up). For that audience you run profile visits, connection requests, a first message (opener) and follow-ups. How that fits into a larger outreach process is covered in [What is prospecting?](https://compleadly.com/blog/what-is-prospecting).

**Recruiting.** A role profile carousel explains the job better than a paragraph. For direct outreach, CompLeadly uses searches, pipelines and saved searches from LinkedIn Recruiter Lite as an audience source, with one workflow per role (Basic and up): profile visit, connection plus opener, follow-ups. People who reacted to your job post can become a target audience too (Premium and up). More on the [CompLeadly for recruiters](https://compleadly.com/use-cases/recruiters) page.

**Job seekers.** A portfolio carousel on your profile gives recruiters and hiring managers something to look at. To get it seen, use LinkedIn's people search to find recruiters and team leads at your target employers and turn that search into a target audience. CompLeadly visits the profiles, sends a connection request with a note, an opener once they accept and one follow-up. This works on the free plan too, within daily limits (for example two connection requests and 25 profile visits a day). The visit is visible to the person, so it doubles as a first signal. How to mark your profile as open to new roles first is explained in our guide to [Open to Work on LinkedIn](https://compleadly.com/blog/open-to-work-linkedin).

## What CompLeadly does for carousels, and what it doesn't

To be clear up front: CompLeadly has no feature that designs carousels. You build the slides in Canva, PowerPoint or any other tool. CompLeadly comes in at three points.

- **Scheduling posts (Premium Plus):** a workflow step for posting to LinkedIn publishes prepared posts at the time you set, with text, media and one document attachment. We have not verified whether LinkedIn displays an attachment posted this way as a swipeable document post, the same as a manual upload. Check the first scheduled post in your feed.
- **Turning reactions into contacts (Premium and up):** CompLeadly exports people who reacted to or commented on a post as a target audience, from your own posts or from posts by profiles in a target audience.
- **Outreach (free plan with daily limits, no tool cap from Basic up):** profile visits, connection requests, openers and follow-ups run as single steps on the free plan. Full workflows with schedules start at Basic.

When you sign up, you get ten days with every feature, no credit card required. After that, your account switches to the free plan automatically. See all [features](https://compleadly.com/features) and compare plans on the [pricing page](https://compleadly.com/pricing).

## Frequently asked questions: LinkedIn carousel

What is a carousel post on LinkedIn?

A carousel post today is a post with an attached document, usually a PDF, whose pages readers swipe through in the feed. LinkedIn accepts PDF, PPT, PPTX, DOC and DOCX files up to 100 MB and 300 pages. LinkedIn's help center no longer describes a separate image carousel; the alternative is a post with up to 20 images.

What size should a LinkedIn carousel be?

LinkedIn doesn't specify pixel dimensions for documents. Our practical recommendation is 4:5 portrait, such as 1080 × 1350 pixels, or a 1080 × 1080 pixel square. The only firm rule from LinkedIn is that all pages must be the same size.

How many slides can a LinkedIn carousel have?

Technically, LinkedIn allows up to 300 pages and 100 MB per document, with one document per post. In practice, use as many slides as your idea needs, one point per slide. A multi-image post tops out at 20 photos.

Can I edit a LinkedIn carousel after posting?

No, the document can't be changed once the post is live. LinkedIn says “you can't change or edit the document in the post.” A mistake on a slide means deleting and reposting, so proofread the PDF first.

Can I schedule a LinkedIn carousel?

You can schedule posts ahead of time, for example with Canva. In CompLeadly, a workflow step for posting to LinkedIn publishes prepared posts with a document attachment at the scheduled time (Premium Plus). We have not verified that the attachment shows up as a swipeable document, so check the first scheduled post in your feed.

In CompLeadly, a workflow step for posting to LinkedIn publishes prepared posts with a document attachment at the scheduled time (Premium Plus).
