The simplest bridge from a comment to a direct message: two sentences. And it is by far the most efficient way to turn “commenting on posts” into actual conversations.

The setup:

You regularly comment on posts by people who are in your target audience or could be your ideal customer. Substantial comments, not “Great post!” platitudes. You pick up on a specific point in the post, add your own perspective, maybe an example.

That is good, but on its own it does not get you anywhere yet.

## Now comes the leverage.

Within 24 hours of your comment you send a message – not a connection request, but directly in the chat (or via InMail if you are not connected yet). It has exactly two sentences (example):

“Hey \[first name\], I just left a comment on your post about \[topic\] – \[specific point\] really caught my attention. We seem to think alike. Would you be up for a quick chat about it?”

## Why this works:

1) You are present in the person’s mind. They have just read your comment. They may even have liked or replied to it. You are no longer a stranger.

2) The reference is specific. “\[Point X\] really caught my attention” shows that you actually read the post – instead of just scrolling past it.

3) The invitation is low-threshold. You are not selling – you are building a relationship.

4) You give them a clear reason. That makes saying “yes” easier than with any connection request.

In our experience, the conversion rate of this sequence – comment + bridge message + booked call – is around 15–25 %. That is 3–5 real conversations per 20 comments.

The bridge works outside sales too. As a recruiter you comment on a post by a developer you have in mind for an open role, then send her the two sentences. As a job seeker you comment on a post by the team lead you want to work for and ask for a short exchange rather than a job. Write the comments that matter most to you yourself. For reach, Smart Comment AI is available as a separate package: the AI comments on posts from your target audience with relevant, individual comments, and it requires Sales Navigator access. CompLeadly can handle what surrounds it. The people whose posts you comment on regularly can become an audience, for example via “profiles I follow” if you follow them. The app visits these profiles, sends the connection request and, once it’s accepted, your bridge message, and it follows up if no reply comes. Recruiters will find the setup on [CompLeadly for recruiting](https://compleadly.com/use-cases/recruiters).

## What you need to avoid:

→ Do not send the bridge message in the same breath as the comment. Leave some space – ideally a few hours. Otherwise it feels staged.

→ Do not write the comment after the fact just so you can send the bridge. People notice.

→ Do not pitch in this message. “15 minutes, no pitch” has to be meant honestly. Otherwise you burn the trust in the very first contact.

Most people comment and hope that reach will eventually turn into enquiries. You do it proactively. You build the bridge yourself. How the bridge fits into a full outreach process for agencies is covered in [lead generation for marketing agencies](https://compleadly.com/blog/lead-generation-marketing-agencies).

If your agency builds the same bridge for several clients, each campaign runs in CompLeadly as its own workflow with its own audience and its own sequence. How agencies set this up: [LinkedIn automation for agencies](https://compleadly.com/use-cases/agencies)

Two sentences. One connection. One conversation.

PS: Hopefully I do not need to mention that you then have to steer the conversation towards your offer ;-)
