## Why scheduling meetings often fails

Many people have experienced that despite apparent interest in a service or product, a LinkedIn contact does not lead to the desired meeting. The disappointment is significant when contacts do not book a meeting via a Calendly link or similar scheduling tools.

## The importance of the phone number

One solution to this problem could be to ask for the contact's phone number directly. Especially in the high-ticket segment, it is important to establish personal contact with the customer, whether through a strategy call or a qualification call. Experience shows that contacts are more willing to share their phone number, which is usually a business number, than to book a call through an impersonal and lengthy link.

Another issue, especially on LinkedIn, is that LinkedIn does not like redirects to other websites and first asks the contact whether they really want to leave the secure LinkedIn site and switch to the potentially insecure XXX site. Very few contacts do this.

## Strategies for scheduling meetings

Once you have the contact's phone number, ask when they are available. Fridays are often good days for these conversations, as many people have more time then. If someone is not willing to share their phone number but is interested in a conversation, try to schedule the meeting directly in the chat instead of just sending a scheduling link.

You can find ready-to-use wording for chat and emails in our [meeting request templates](https://compleadly.com/blog/meeting-request-email).

## The art of following up

It’s also important to keep at it. If someone shows interest but then stops replying, don’t hesitate to follow up. CompLeadly helps you do that: the desktop app on your computer sends the follow-ups, or, if you prefer, the optional CompLeadly cloud computer can send them. The Chrome extension only works alongside you in LinkedIn; it doesn’t run campaigns or sequences itself.

## Live

Sometimes your business requires you to arrange a live broadcast or something similar. In such cases, flexibility is key. Try to schedule the meeting directly in the chat instead of only sending a scheduling link.

It often makes sense in these cases too

## From interest to a meeting with candidates and hiring managers

Recruiters know the pattern: a candidate replies with interest, gets a booking link, and never responds again. Instead, suggest two specific times in the chat or ask for their number for a quick call. If you’re looking for a job, the same applies in reverse: if a team lead responds to your request, ask for fifteen minutes and offer two time slots yourself. In both cases, you can schedule the follow-ups described above. CompLeadly sends follow-ups when your message has gone unanswered for a set number of days. Before that, it finds contacts through a people search or, with a Recruiter licence, through Recruiter searches. In the free version, follow-ups are a basic feature with a daily limit (1 per day). For the full recruiting workflow, see [the page for recruiters](https://compleadly.com/use-cases/recruiters).

## Conclusion

Scheduling a meeting is often the first step in a successful business relationship and should not be left to chance. By asking for the phone number directly, following up strategically, and taking a flexible approach, you can significantly increase the likelihood of successfully scheduling meetings.
