**If you want to be visible internationally, publish content or win B2B customers, LinkedIn is the right choice. If you are looking for a job and want to be found in German-speaking countries, Xing remains a serious second channel.** The two networks have evolved in different directions: Xing now explicitly positions itself as a jobs network, while LinkedIn is a global professional network with a strong feed.

This comparison is based exclusively on information provided by the companies themselves. Where there is no official figure, there is none here either. **Last updated: 19 September 2026.**

## What Xing stands for today

Xing (official spelling: XING) is part of New Work SE. Its homepage makes the following promise: “Find the job that suits you. Or let yourself be found!” The main navigation includes _Find jobs_,_Company_ it and enter it _Network_ – so job search comes first (source: [xing.com](https://www.xing.com/), accessed 19 September 2026).

New Work SE describes Xing itself as “the renowned jobs network in Germany”, connecting “over 20 million members in German-speaking countries”, listing more than one million jobs and hosting “more than 20,000 recruiters” (source: [new-work.se/de/unternehmen](https://www.new-work.se/de/unternehmen), accessed 19 September 2026). It also mentions job ads, active sourcing and an applicant management system – in other words, recruiting products, not sales products.

## What LinkedIn stands for

On its company page, LinkedIn states that it has **over 1.3 billion members worldwide**, including more than 430 million in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (source: [news.linkedin.com/about-us](https://news.linkedin.com/about-us), accessed 19 September 2026). LinkedIn does not publish a separate figure for Germany, Austria or Switzerland there – so a direct comparison of member numbers in the DACH region is not possible using official sources.

In terms of content, LinkedIn is broader: it offers profiles and job search too, along with an active post feed, company pages, newsletters and dedicated product lines for sales (Sales Navigator) and recruiting (Recruiter). We explain in detail what LinkedIn is at its core and how the network works in [What is LinkedIn?](https://compleadly.com/blog/what-is-linkedin-everything-about-networking-careers-and-social-selling) field.

## LinkedIn and Xing: a direct comparison

| Criterion | LinkedIn | Xing |
| ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Target audience | Working professionals worldwide, across all industries | Focus on German-speaking countries |
| Reach (company statement) | over 1.3 billion members worldwide, over 430 million in Europe, the Middle East and Africa | over 20 million members in German-speaking countries |
| Content and feed | Core element: posts, comments, newsletters, company pages | No comparably promoted content channel; the homepage directs users to jobs |
| recruiting | Dedicated product line (Recruiter, job ads) | Core promise: over 1 million jobs, more than 20,000 recruiters, active sourcing |
| Sales and outreach | Dedicated product for lead research and outreach (Sales Navigator) | No dedicated sales product listed on the public pages |
| Pricing model | Free basic account, with several Premium tiers available on top | Free basic account, paid Premium and ProJobs memberships |
| Pricing transparency | Plan prices are publicly available | The Premium page directs users to log in – prices are only visible after signing in |

The names of the Xing memberships come from the footer of [xing.com](https://www.xing.com/support/contact) (accessed 19 September 2026). We deliberately do not mention specific prices here because the Xing Premium page does not show any figures without logging in. The current LinkedIn plans are listed in our overview [LinkedIn Premium costs](https://compleadly.com/blog/how-much-does-linkedin-premium-cost-in-2026-all-prices-plans-and-tips-at-a-glance) field.

## Which network fits your goal?

Go through the following cases one by one:

1. **You are looking for a job in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.** Maintain both profiles, but keep Xing complete: it is explicitly positioned as a jobs network with more than one million vacancies and over 20,000 recruiters.
2. **You are looking internationally or in an English-speaking environment.** Then LinkedIn is essential – Xing makes no statement about its reach in markets outside German-speaking countries.
3. **You want to win B2B customers.** LinkedIn. Its feed, comments and Sales Navigator are designed for this; no dedicated sales product is listed on Xing’s public pages.
4. **You want to find staff as an employer.** Both, with different approaches: Xing promotes job ads, active sourcing and applicant management for the DACH market, while LinkedIn relies on a dedicated recruiting interface. You can find out what it costs in LinkedIn Recruiter pricing field.
5. **You want to build reach through content.** LinkedIn, because its post feed is the central element.

## Using both – when it makes sense

In most cases, the question “LinkedIn or Xing” is the wrong one. A basic profile is free on both. If you want to be found in the DACH region, an empty Xing profile means giving up visibility among exactly the recruiters who search there every day.

The honest caveat: maintaining two profiles takes time. A practical approach is to actively use one network and keep the other as an accurate storefront. For sales and content, this usually means: LinkedIn active, Xing up to date. For job seekers in German-speaking countries, the opposite may make sense.

What we deliberately do not claim here is which features Xing has discontinued in recent years. As of 19 September 2026, we have not found an official statement we could rely on – so we do not mention it here.

## Frequently asked questions about LinkedIn and Xing

### Is LinkedIn or Xing better?

That depends on your goal, not the platform. LinkedIn is significantly larger, internationally oriented and content-driven. Xing focuses on German-speaking countries and jobs. LinkedIn is the obvious choice for sales and international contacts, while Xing is also worthwhile for job searches in the DACH region.

### How many members do LinkedIn and Xing have?

LinkedIn reports over 1.3 billion members worldwide and more than 430 million across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. New Work SE reports over 20 million Xing members in German-speaking countries. There is no official LinkedIn figure for the DACH region alone, so a direct comparison is not possible in a meaningful way (as of 19 September 2026).

### Is Xing still relevant?

Yes, as a jobs and recruiting network: New Work SE promotes over one million jobs and more than 20,000 recruiters, while the homepage also lists over 270,000 employers. Xing does not position itself as a comparable platform for expert content and reach – that is what LinkedIn is for.

### How much does Xing cost compared with LinkedIn?

Both offer a free basic account. Xing also offers Premium and ProJobs memberships, but only displays prices on the product page after you log in. LinkedIn lists its Premium plans publicly; you can find the current prices in our [pricing overview](https://compleadly.com/blog/how-much-does-linkedin-premium-cost-in-2026-all-prices-plans-and-tips-at-a-glance) field.

### Do I need both profiles?

If you work in German-speaking countries or are looking for a job there: usually yes, if only because both basic accounts are free. But consciously choose one network to stay active on and only keep the other profile up to date. Two half-maintained profiles look worse than one that is well maintained.
