LinkedIn Connection Guide
LinkedIn offers an excellent platform for connecting with a wide range of professionals, whether for career opportunities, customer acquisition, or building a professional network.
Networking basics:
- Direct connections (1st degree): When someone accepts your connection request on LinkedIn, they become a direct connection.
- Access for direct connections: These people can see all the information displayed on your LinkedIn profile, and vice versa.
- Maximum number of connections: A member can have up to 30,000 direct connections on LinkedIn (as of 21 August 2022).
How can you connect?
- A member's profile: Go to the LinkedIn profile of the member you want to connect with and click or tap “Connect”.
- Search results: On the search results page, you can click “Connect” directly next to a member's information.
- Expand your network: Import contacts directly into LinkedIn using their email addresses.
- Accept invitations: Review and accept pending connection requests in your LinkedIn profile.
- LinkedIn suggestions: In the “People you may know” section, click or tap “Connect” below the member's name.
- Use mutual connections: If you want to connect with a 2nd-degree connection, ask a mutual connection for support or send a message to your existing network to find out who can help you.
Important notes when connecting:
- When sending a connection request, you may be asked: "How do you know [member's name]?".
If you select the option "We don't know each other", you may be asked to send this person an InMail message first to build a relationship. - To avoid this, it is recommended to select the "others" option so you can connect on LinkedIn as usual.
