Can you schedule LinkedIn messages? Regular LinkedIn messages cannot be scheduled natively; scheduling exists in Recruiter and Recruiter Lite for InMails and in automation tools that run sequences in a time window. As of 30 September 2026, LinkedIn's standard messaging has no schedule or send-later option, while in Recruiter you pick a date, time and time zone for an InMail. Posts are a separate case: every member can schedule them. Below you find LinkedIn's own wording for each case and both routes step by step. Last updated: 30 September 2026.

Can you schedule LinkedIn messages? The short answer

LinkedIn's help page on sending messages describes the whole flow: compose a new message, fill in the To field, “Write a message”, send. There is no step for picking a later time. The same page also sets the boundary of free messaging: “You can only message your connections.” Anyone outside your 1st-degree network needs a connection request or an InMail first.

How to schedule a LinkedIn message

There are two ways to get a LinkedIn message out at a planned time, and only the second covers regular messages. Which one fits depends on your license and on whether you want one message or a whole sequence.

Natively: schedule InMails in Recruiter and Recruiter Lite

LinkedIn's Recruiter help is explicit: “you can schedule initial outreach InMail messages in advance in LinkedIn Recruiter and Recruiter Lite”. The steps, in LinkedIn's words:

  1. Write your InMail as usual.
  2. “Click the Send immediately via InMail dropdown at the top of the message”.
  3. “click Later”.
  4. “Select the date, time, and time zone that you want the message to be sent”.

Two details matter. First, the time zone: “If you select the recipient's time zone, but it is not available on the member's profile, your time zone will be used instead.” Second, follow-ups. In Recruiter, not in Recruiter Lite, you can “schedule a follow-up InMail message to be automatically sent after a minimum of 3 days (approximately 72 hours) and a maximum of 28 days”. By default, “follow-up messages are sent 7 days after the initial message if the candidate didn't reply”.

With an automation tool: schedule the sequence, not the single message

Outside Recruiter, a tool sends on your behalf. In CompLeadly, scheduled workflows with a calendar are part of Premium:

  1. Build the audience. Set position, industry, region and company size in the audience builder, or paste a LinkedIn search URL. Sales Navigator and Recruiter Lite searches work too, with your own license.
  2. Build the workflow: connection request, message after acceptance, follow-ups.
  3. Set the schedule. A schedule is a time window with a start and an end, and it can repeat, for example weekdays from 9:00 to 11:00.
  4. Check the calendar view. You reach it from the workflow overview, from inside a workflow or with a right-click. If you edit one entry of a recurring schedule, only that weekday changes.

The schedule is a window for the sequence, not a send minute per recipient. Inside the window the app works through the audience one contact after the other, at a human pace and within the daily limits you set. If one message has to land at 14:37 for one person, use the Later option in Recruiter for an InMail, or send it yourself. CompLeadly runs on your own computer, which has to be on and awake when the window opens; a cloud server with its own dedicated IP is available as an option.

Scheduling posts vs. scheduling messages on LinkedIn

Posts can be scheduled natively, which causes much of the confusion. On desktop you click “Start a post”, then the clock icon in the lower right, pick date and time, click Next and then Schedule. On mobile you tap “Post” and then the clock icon in the upper right. LinkedIn sets one rule: “The time selected must be within 10 minutes to 3 months from the current time”. Posts about events, jobs and services cannot be scheduled.

Source: LinkedIn Help: Schedule posts, retrieved 30 September 2026. Step by step in our knowledge base: schedule posts on LinkedIn.

A scheduled post goes to your feed. A message goes to one person and starts a conversation you then have to hold. Scheduling posts does nothing for your inbox.

Best time to send LinkedIn messages

The only timing data LinkedIn has published is about InMail. In 2016 the LinkedIn Talent Blog looked at when candidates answer and concluded: “There is no best time. Any time of day gets fairly the same response rate because no matter when they receive the message, candidates respond only when it's convenient for them.” The same analysis found that “The shorter the InMail, the higher the response rate”, and that personalized messages outperform templates.

For regular messages LinkedIn publishes no timing data. Percentages for the best weekday and hour in third-party articles are not verified, so we do not repeat them. Pick a window that fits your working day, keep it for a few weeks, then compare with a second window. Plan the window so you can read and answer replies inside it. Our knowledge base explains how to set this up visually: optimal time scheduling for sequences.

Why sequences beat one-off scheduled messages

A scheduled single message solves the send time, not what happens next: no reply, a reply, or an accepted request a week later.

  • Follow-ups that stop at the first reply. Automated follow-up sequences write again while there is no answer and stop as soon as the person reacts.
  • Connection sequences. The connection request goes out, and the sequence continues only after the person accepts.
  • Time windows instead of fixed minutes. The sequence runs when you can answer.
  • The 5-day rule. Contacts who accept your request but are not processed within 5 days drop out of the audience. Your windows have to be wide enough for the pace you set.
  • Realistic planning. Our knowledge base recommends planning 3 to 4 hours for a full graphical sequence and 1 to 2 hours per follow-up.

A sequence from our knowledge base: follow the person first, then send the connection request, and after acceptance send a thank-you message instead of a pitch. Acceptance rises because the person has already noticed you. It takes four steps from a template: create the sequence, insert the audience from LinkedIn or Sales Navigator, individualize the messages, schedule the execution. Setup guide: follow before connecting, then a thank-you message. What that message should say is covered in our guide to the thanks for connecting message on LinkedIn.

In sales, you set the window (Premium) for the hours you can take calls, and a Connection-Sequence with automated follow-ups (Basic) runs from request to follow-up. In recruiting, you can schedule single InMails natively in Recruiter or Recruiter Lite; in CompLeadly the Recruiter Lite integration (all plans, your own license) turns a candidate search into an audience that runs through the same kind of sequence. More on the recruiters page. As a job seeker, you build a short list of recruiters, hiring managers and people at your target employers, follow them, connect with a personal note and let a thank-you message go out after acceptance. With personalized messages (Basic) and a scheduled window (Premium), you plan the outreach once and spend your time on the conversations.

What CompLeadly does for scheduled LinkedIn messages

CompLeadly is a desktop app for Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. It runs on your own computer through your own IP address, at a human pace with daily limits you set. Which plan covers what:

  • Basic: connection sequences, automated follow-up sequences that stop at the first reaction, Autopilot for whole workflows in the background, personalized InMails and messages.
  • Premium: scheduled workflows and the calendar, placeholder personalization for gender, time of day, day and title, multi-language detection, attachments in messages and workflow templates.
  • Premium Plus: detection of formal or informal address and individual AI messages based on the profile.

You start with a 10-day free trial without a credit card. After the trial, a free tier keeps the basic functions with daily limits. Basic costs €29.99 per month, or €24.99 per month billed yearly; Premium and Premium Plus are on the pricing page. Every function and its plan are listed on the features page. To sketch your sequence and its timing first, open the free outreach sequence planner; it runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions about scheduling LinkedIn messages

Can you schedule a message on LinkedIn?

Not in LinkedIn's standard messaging: the help page on sending messages describes no schedule or send-later option. Recruiter and Recruiter Lite can schedule InMails, and posts can be scheduled by every member.

Can you schedule messages on LinkedIn mobile?

For regular messages, LinkedIn's help describes no scheduling option on any device. Posts can be scheduled on mobile: in the app you tap “Post” and then the clock icon in the upper right, and the time must be within 10 minutes to 3 months from now.

Can you schedule InMails?

Yes, in Recruiter and Recruiter Lite. LinkedIn writes that “you can schedule initial outreach InMail messages in advance”: open the Send immediately via InMail dropdown, click Later and choose date, time and time zone.

Does scheduling messages violate LinkedIn's rules?

Scheduling an InMail inside Recruiter or Recruiter Lite is a LinkedIn feature. For third-party tools, §8.2 of the LinkedIn User Agreement (retrieved 30 September 2026) lists among its Don'ts: “Use bots or other unauthorized automated methods to access the Services, add or download contacts, send or redirect messages, create, comment on, like, share, or re-share posts”. How CompLeadly is built, on your own computer, through your own IP, at a human pace with daily limits you set, is described on the security page.

Can you schedule a message to a group of people?

The LinkedIn help pages cited here describe no option to schedule one regular message to a list of people. To reach a group on a schedule, you put the people into an audience and let a sequence work through it inside a time window.
