Viewing angle and body language: the key to projecting competence

To be perceived as competent, there are many factors you can consider.

The two most important are the dress code as a status symbol and the angle from which you present yourself.

One study found that an angle of around 30 degrees, slightly tilted towards the person you are speaking to, conveys the most competence compared with, for example, facing the other person directly head-on.

Depending on the industry and professional sphere you work in, your dress code can also be a status symbol.
However, this does not mean that a formal suit is always right for you. It depends entirely on what signals status in your field.

The "Red Sneakers Effect": When your name speaks for itself

When your name alone has become a status symbol, the so-called "Red Sneakers Effect" comes into play.

For example, when you look at Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg, you can see that an extremely high status speaks for itself and allows you to dress very simply without losing competence or status.
