LinkedIn AI tools help in three places: writing your profile, drafting messages and preparing replies. LinkedIn's own AI sits mostly inside Premium, Sales Navigator and Recruiter, and some of it works only in English or for select members. Free AI tools cover your profile and messages, and for replies you bring your own AI. Last updated: 2 October 2026.
What AI does LinkedIn itself offer?
LinkedIn ties its AI features to paid products. The overview below relies on LinkedIn's help pages only.
Profile: writing help for select Premium members
“Profile Writing Assistance” suggests text for three profile sections: headline, About and Experience. For the headline you click “Show me options”, and for Experience it proofreads existing text of at least 20 words. The catch is on the help page itself: “This feature is available only to a select group of LinkedIn Premium subscribers.” The comparison table checks it for Premium Career, Business, All-in-One, Sales Navigator Core and Recruiter Lite, yet a subscription alone doesn't guarantee access. Anything you change with it stays on your profile even if you cancel Premium later.

Posts: the AI writing tool is gone
If you were hoping for AI for LinkedIn posts, the help page is titled “Create posts with our AI-powered writing tool - No longer available” and says: “LinkedIn's AI-powered writing tool is not available at this time.” Only for Premium Company Pages does LinkedIn still list “AI-powered post writing”. To turn a draft into a multi-page document post, see our guide to the LinkedIn carousel. Sales Navigator: LinkedIn AI for sales
According to LinkedIn, several AI features in Sales Navigator are “turned on by default”: Account IQ, Lead IQ, Message Assist and Ask for intro.
- Account IQ aims to simplify account qualification and prioritization and comes with every Sales Navigator plan (Core, Advanced, Advanced Plus). It is not available for companies with 49 employees or fewer, self-employed businesses, government agencies or educational institutions, and it shows financial data only for US public companies.
- Lead IQ is also in all three plans, but only if your LinkedIn language is set to English.
- Message Assist drafts messages in English only. You can send at most six AI-assisted messages per minute and 50 per month, and each one uses an InMail credit. The help page does not name a plan tier.
LinkedIn itself warns that “it is possible that the output … can be factually wrong”. Sources (Sales Navigator Help, retrieved 2 October 2026): AI features, Account IQ, Account IQ availability, Lead IQ, Message Assist, Generative AI.
Recruiter: AI Messages for candidate InMails
In LinkedIn Recruiter, “AI Messages” helps you write personalized InMails faster, both first outreach and follow-ups. Auto-drafting is on by default, and you can send AI messages in bulk to up to 25 candidates. You can't turn the AI off entirely, only the auto-drafting. Recipients are not notified when a message was drafted with AI. Sources (Recruiter Help, retrieved 2 October 2026): AI Messages and AI Messages FAQ.

AI for your profile: headline and About section
Good profile copy needs three inputs no AI can guess: your role, who you serve and the result you get them. Our free LinkedIn Headline Generator and LinkedIn Summary Generator ask for exactly that and turn it into a headline or a three-part About section. Both are instructed not to invent numbers: anything missing from your input shows up as a bracketed placeholder such as “[X] years of experience”. Fill those gaps with real proof.
The same goes for LinkedIn's own writing help: treat the suggestion as a first draft and cut every adjective you can't back with an example. A headline that says whom you help and how beats a stack of job titles.
AI for messages: draft fast, send with care
With messages, AI mostly saves time on the first draft. You still supply the reason for writing and the link to the person, or every draft sounds the same.
The connection request note
The note is short: on a free account LinkedIn allows up to 200 characters. LinkedIn suggests saying how you found the person or what you have in common, why you want to connect now, and keeping a clear and polite tone (LinkedIn Help: Personalize invitations to connect, retrieved 2 October 2026). Ready-made examples are in our LinkedIn connection message templates. In CompLeadly, AI can write that note for each profile. That requires Premium Plus, and the note is capped at 270 characters there.
Openers and follow-ups with AI text
For the first message after someone accepts (the opener), for follow-ups and for auto InMails, you switch CompLeadly from manual text to AI text. The AI then writes a separate message for each profile from your prompt and the contact's profile data. According to our guide, you pick a casual or professional style or write your own prompt. AI messages require Premium Plus and are included in the 10-day trial. If you set a fallback text, the step keeps running without Premium Plus and sends that text instead.
Plan the sequence, then check the copy
The free Outreach Sequence Planner builds a multi-step sequence with a timeline from your audience, goal and offer. Run the finished text through the Message Check. It scores length, personal relevance, an open question and salesy language, without AI and right in your browser.
AI for replies: bring your own AI through MCP
CompLeadly's Smart Chat has no built-in AI that replies for you. Smart Chat is an add-on (Lite or Premium) that syncs your LinkedIn inbox into CompLeadly, with categories, assignment and templates. Reply drafts come from your own AI, for example ChatGPT or Claude, through MCP access to your CompLeadly account.
Here is the flow from our guide: you ask your AI to find new, unanswered Smart Chat conversations and save a fitting reply as a draft for each. A draft is not sent automatically: you read, edit and send it yourself in Smart Chat. Tone comes from your instructions.
Setup starts at the MCP access overview. Claude connects with a token (connect Claude with CompLeadly), ChatGPT through OAuth (set up ChatGPT access). On the ChatGPT side, our guide says you need a plan with connectors: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu. What the MCP server does and which plan includes it is on the MCP page and the pricing page. For LinkedIn's own developer interface, see our guide to the LinkedIn API.
Smart Comment AI: comments drafted by AI
Smart Comment AI (add-on Smart Chat Premium) writes AI comments on posts from your target audience. A good comment picks up one concrete point from the post and adds to it, say with your own experience or a question. So check the first AI comments: do they actually respond to the post? “Great post” won't start a conversation.
What AI won't do for you
AI writes. It does not decide whom you contact or what you offer. If your offer doesn't match what the person needs right now, even the best message ends in a friendly chat and no deal. Before you polish prompts, answer two questions: who exactly has the problem you solve, and why would this person reply now?
How to check AI copy before it goes out
- Facts: Is every statement about the person, their company and your offer true? Even LinkedIn warns that Sales Navigator's AI output can be factually wrong.
- Placeholders: Is there a “[X]” or a bracketed name left anywhere?
- Relevance: Does the message name a reason that fits only this person?
- Tone: Does the level of formality match the industry and your previous exchange?
- One ask: One message, one topic, one simple question at the end.
Three use cases: sales, recruiting and job search
Sales
In sales you turn a LinkedIn or Sales Navigator search into a target audience in CompLeadly. The workflow visits profiles, sends the connection request, then the opener and follow-ups, which stop once someone replies. Full workflows with schedules start on Basic. With Premium Plus, AI writes the note, opener and follow-ups for each profile.
Recruiting
Recruiters use their Recruiter Lite search, pipeline or a saved search as the target audience, with one workflow per role: profile visit, connection with opener, then follow-ups. With Premium Plus, AI writes each candidate message from your prompt and the profile data, which per our guide includes career history and skills. LinkedIn Recruiter users also have AI Messages for InMails. More on the CompLeadly for recruiters page.
Job search
As a job seeker you turn a people search for recruiters and hiring managers at your target employers into a target audience. Then the standard steps run: profile visit, connection request with a note, opener, follow-up. That works on the free tier too, with daily limits such as two connection requests and 25 profile visits per day. Here AI helps most with your profile: sharpen headline and About section before recruiters look.
What CompLeadly handles with AI

- Smart Chat with reply drafts from your own AI via MCP: add-on Lite or Premium.

Frequently asked questions: LinkedIn AI tools
Which LinkedIn AI tools help with my profile?
LinkedIn's Profile Writing Assistance suggests text for your headline, About and Experience sections. LinkedIn says it is available only to a select group of Premium subscribers. Without it, free tools like the headline or summary generator give you a draft to rework with your own proof.
Does LinkedIn still have an AI tool for posts?
Not for personal posts: LinkedIn's help page lists its AI-powered writing tool for posts as “No longer available”. For Premium Company Pages, LinkedIn still lists AI-powered post writing.
Does Message Assist in Sales Navigator work in other languages?
No. According to LinkedIn's help page, Message Assist is only available in English. It is capped at six AI-assisted messages per minute and 50 per month, each using an InMail credit.
Does an AI reply automatically in CompLeadly Smart Chat?
No, there is no built-in AI that replies in Smart Chat. Your own AI, such as ChatGPT or Claude, can draft replies through MCP access. You review each draft and send it yourself.
Which LinkedIn AI tools are free?
The AI features described in LinkedIn's help pages come with Premium, Sales Navigator or Recruiter. On the CompLeadly website you can use the Headline Generator, the Summary Generator and the Outreach Sequence Planner for free and without signing up. All three use AI and have a usage limit per IP address. The Message Check reviews your copy without AI, right in your browser.
