1. Introduction

In some cases, you may want to write to someone yourself directly after connecting—without another message (the so-called opener) being sent automatically afterwards.

2. When the opener is sent automatically

By default, the system is set so that the opener is always sent automatically, even if you have already sent a first message manually.

Specifically, this means:

  • As soon as a connection is established, the system checks whether there are already two messages in the chat history.
  • If there is only one message (for example, your manual message), the opener is still sent.
  • Only when there are two messages in the chat will the automatic opener no longer be sent.

The system assumes that a single message may only have been the original connection request message—and still triggers the opener.

3. What happens if you write first manually?

If you send the first message yourself (after the connection request), the following scenario is possible with the default setting:

  • Your manual message appears as the first message in the chat.
  • However, since there is only one message the opener is still sent automatically.

This can lead to duplicate outreach—which is often not desired.

4. “Only send if chat is empty” setting

If you want to prevent the opener from being sent automatically after you have written a message yourself, you can use a simple setting:

→ Enable the following option for the opener: “Only send if chat is empty”

This means:

  • The opener is only sent if there are no messages in the chat yet.
This makes sense if you do not send a connection request message
  • As soon as you write something manually, the system recognises that the chat is not empty—and the opener is no longer triggered field.
