Two glass panels on a desk, one with a padlock and one with a group of people, with a glowing scale between them, illustrating a comparison of recruiting options

If you don't hire continuously as a team, you can often do without LinkedIn Recruiter. There are four alternatives: Recruiter Lite, Sales Navigator (listed publicly from US$119.99 per month and license), your regular LinkedIn account, or your regular account plus an automation tool such as CompLeadly (from €29.99 a month). Which option fits depends on how often you hire and how many people you want to reach.

This article compares the options by features, public prices and use case. As of September 23, 2026. All LinkedIn details come from the official LinkedIn pages linked below.

What LinkedIn Recruiter itself costs

LinkedIn does not list a price for Recruiter or Recruiter Lite on its public product pages; for Recruiter you get a quote from sales. How the two differ and where to look up the Recruiter Lite price is covered in LinkedIn Recruiter cost: Lite or Recruiter?.

When an alternative makes sense

LinkedIn positions Recruiter for consistent hiring needs and a dedicated recruiting budget: up to 150 InMails per month per seat, 40+ advanced search filters, unlimited access to the LinkedIn network and a connection to your applicant tracking system (LinkedIn product comparison). An alternative makes sense if at least one of these applies to you:

  • You only hire a few people a year.
  • You work alone or in a pair, not in a recruiting team with a shared pipeline.
  • You don't need a direct connection to an applicant tracking system.
  • You want to know the cost up front instead of requesting a quote.
  • Your candidates are within reach of your extended network anyway.

Alternative 1: Recruiter Lite instead of Recruiter

The obvious alternative comes from LinkedIn itself. LinkedIn describes Recruiter Lite as best for individuals "hiring just a few people a year, who need basic sourcing capabilities". You get your own recruiting workspace separate from your personal profile, but fewer InMails, fewer filters and no reach beyond the 3rd degree.

The catch is the same as with Recruiter: there's no price on the public page. Use the free trial to check with your real searches whether the filters and 30 InMails a month are enough.

Alternative 2: Sales Navigator for recruiting

Sales Navigator is built for sales, not recruiting. The people search works for both, though: you filter by title, company, location or industry, save searches and reach out via InMail. The advantage over Recruiter: LinkedIn publishes the prices. Core starts at US$119.99 per month and license or US$1,079.88 per year, Advanced at US$159.99 per month or US$1,799.88 per year. According to LinkedIn, all three tiers include 50 InMails per month.

What's missing: recruiting tools such as candidate pipelines and the connection to an applicant tracking system. If you use Sales Navigator for search, you need your own way of keeping track of candidates. Whether Sales Navigator pays off in general is discussed in LinkedIn Sales Navigator: a worthwhile investment or an overrated sales tool?.

Alternative 3: your regular LinkedIn account

You don't necessarily need a paid product for active sourcing. With a regular account you search via people search, send a connection request and write a message once it's accepted. It costs nothing but time, and time is the bottleneck: if you're filling ten roles at once, you can't do it on the side.

One advantage of this route: after connecting, your message lands in the inbox as a regular message, not as an InMail. Whether to send the connection request with or without a note is covered in LinkedIn connections with or without a message.

Alternative 4: LinkedIn account plus CompLeadly

CompLeadly takes over the repetitive steps without taking the search or the wording out of your hands. The desktop app works with the LinkedIn access you already have. Specifically:

  • Target audiences from your searches: from the regular LinkedIn people search, from Sales Navigator or, if you use Recruiter Lite, from Recruiter Lite searches, pipelines and saved searches.
  • Sequences instead of single clicks: visit the profile, connect, send a first message once the request is accepted, and follow up when your message has gone unanswered for a number of days you set.
  • Personalized messages: placeholders personalize every message, with a live preview for each step. From Premium Plus, the AI also optimizes texts and, for German-speaking contacts, detects from the previous chat history whether the informal "Du" or the formal "Sie" fits.
  • Transparency: more than 260 documented reasons why a profile gets skipped, checked in every plan. The table of skipped profiles, with the reason for each one, comes with Premium.
  • Hand-off to your system: via the webhook engine, e.g. to HubSpot, Zoho, Pipedrive or Salesforce, directly or through Zapier, Make or n8n.
  • Local: the automation runs on your computer over your own internet connection. An optional cloud computer of your own is available.

On cost: paid plans start at €29.99 a month, cancel monthly, or €24.99 on the yearly plan. After the 10-day trial with every feature, CompLeadly stays free with its basic functions and a daily limit, for example 2 connection requests, 1 opener and 1 follow-up per day; whole workflows and schedules come with Basic. How recruiting teams use CompLeadly is shown on CompLeadly for recruiters.

CompLeadly works with the network your LinkedIn access opens up for you. Write every message so it fits the profile. CompLeadly handles the pace for you.

The same tools for sales and job hunting

Everything above works with other target groups. In sales, you build the audience from decision-makers in your target industry, via the people search or, with your own licence, Sales Navigator, and CompLeadly handles the profile visit, connection request, first message and follow-up (CompLeadly for sales teams). If you are looking for a job yourself, filter the people search for recruiters and hiring managers at your target employers and write to them directly. The free version covers this if you start the basic functions with a daily limit one step at a time; whole workflows need Basic. The usual mistakes on that side are covered in 10 common LinkedIn mistakes when job hunting.

Which option fits you?

  • You hire continuously as a team and need the ATS connection: LinkedIn Recruiter, quote via sales.
  • You hire occasionally and want a dedicated recruiting workspace: Recruiter Lite, trial first.
  • You need fine-grained filters and a public price: Sales Navigator Core.
  • You fill a few roles and have time: your regular account.
  • You fill several roles in parallel and want predictable search and outreach: your LinkedIn access plus CompLeadly, starting with the free version if you like.

One tip, whatever option you choose: link your privacy notice for applicants in your first message to candidates.
