How to finally get replies to your LinkedIn InMails

A few weeks ago, someone asked me why hardly anyone replies to their InMails.

20 messages – 0 responses.

Does that sound familiar? You put in the effort, write in a friendly way, but it feels like you're talking into the void.

➡️ The real question is:

How do you get people to reply to your InMail without overwhelming them with a pitch?

Here’s the psychological trick that really works 👇

1️⃣ Start with a question – not an offer.

For example: “Am I right in thinking that you work in IT security?”

It’s neutral, shows interest and is easy to answer.

2️⃣ Use the need to be right.

People love to confirm or correct something.

When they reply – even with “No, that’s not right” – the chat is open.

3️⃣ Keep it short.

An InMail is not a novel. One sentence + one question is more than enough.

4️⃣ Build on the reply later.

When someone responds, you can write to them again even months later – the chat stays open like a regular LinkedIn message.

💡 The first step towards more InMail replies is not selling better –

but asking better questions.

How do you currently start your first message on LinkedIn?

👇 Feel free to share your best example in the comments!
